Remember a while back when I posted about my jewelry storage bench? Well it turns out that 1) my collection is growing faster than a family of bunnies and 2) necklaces easily tangle when kept in small dishes.
Until this past week I've had my necklaces hanging on a cork pin-board that was leaning against my bedroom wall. That was, until inspiration struck...
It all started with this fantastic DIY artwork I spotted on Pinterest and followed back to Virginia & Charlie.
I've had this idea in the back of my mind for a bit, planning to eventually re-create it for my spare bedroom. But then, something better happened! Somehow, it mixed with all the other ideas I'd stored back there including my need/want for additional jewelry storage and I hit DIY gold!
Check out my new jewelry board! Ta-Da!
I started with a plain cork board and painted it gray with some leftover wall paint that I had. After two coats I used some t-shirt puff paint to draw on my design.
Initially I was afraid I wouldn't be able to free-hand paint a pattern but I practiced a couple times with a pen and paper and then moved to a sharpie on wax paper the size of my board so I could get a hang on the sizes and overall layout of the pattern.
Once everything was said and done, all I needed to do was put it up and hang the jewelry up with push pins..
Enjoy!

I do not have a lot of necklaces but I would buy some just to have an excuse to make one of these. Very simple, useful and decorative!

I adore this. and you.
ReplyDeleteIngenious! Love it! I have such a shaky hand, I have always been scared to try free-hand drawing but I might just give this a shot!

Very cool. I need to do something like this. My necklaces always tangle up together into a huge mess, because I have no system of organization for them! ha!
ReplyDeleteLove this idea! I would love for you to link up to my new party, Monday Myriad Linky Party

I bought two at the dollar store today along with some hinges. I manipulated it so that i could 'open' the boards and use as a display at fairs and events. Thanks for the DIY!
