Wood Pallets with Potential

My aunt and uncle own a turf farm. I'm not trying to brag (did it work?) but the reason I bring this up is that, growing up, they were always just there (great material for constructing forts) and I simply associated them with rolls of turf.

Well it turns out my little association is all wrong and the pallet actually lives a very famous and glamorous life. Who'd of guessed? Recently I've noticed pallet furnishings all over Pinterest and, as that is where I spend copious amounts of my time, the whole thing is really having an impact on my life.

I'm starting to look at pallets in a whole new light and here are some of my favorites. I must say that although I am drawn to the au-natural wood pallets I can completely respect the painted ones too!

These images have really got my mind racing with all the amazing things I could make. I guess if my aunt and uncle notice a shortage in their pallet supply they'll have me at the top of the list of potential thieves (most likely rightfully so).

Enjoy!

Hand Me Downs

This weekend I went to visit my grandparents and came home with a pair of vintage leather riding boots! It just so happened that my grandma was getting rid of them AND they fit me - I should have bought a lottery ticket!

The calves are a bit tight (the left more than the right, weird eh?) so I wont be able to tuck jeans into them but I think they'll work out well overall, especially with girlie dresses if I ever have the guts to try and pull it off.

I wore them around the house a lot this weekend - then I got to thinking. Looking around my place it's amazing how many of my favorite pieces have been passed down (or are on loan) from my grandma.
My grandparents have lived in the same house for the better part of 30 years and as a result have accumulated a lot of stuff. Its amazing how much junk can get crammed away but it all has to be dealt with eventually. As a result my grandma's purpose in life has become leading the great purge of 2011.

My new role has quickly become benefactor of said great purge*.

My grandparent's must have had decent taste because a good portion of the stuff they are getting rid of is retro, mid-century, or vintage and in good shape. As no one else seems to be even remotely interested and I can't turn down my grandma (that wouldn't be helpful at all), I've adopted a lot of new pieces (you know, as a favor).

It all started with my coffee table which is living with me temporarily (it's on loan). It's made of Monkey Pod and my grandparents brought it home from their honeymoon in Hawaii over 50 years ago. It could use a light sanding and oil but I also like the glitter and marker stains from when I was a kid.

I can't believe that this amazing wood poster of the 1923 Calgary Stampede was collecting dust in my grandparent's basement for years. I'm not sure of it's past but I'm thinking it may have come from my great-grandfathers hardware store.

This little wood side table moved in a few months ago. I really like the size (it's pretty big), colour, and brass inlay on the legs.

This mid-century stool was my birthday gift this year. I'd had my eye on it for a while and the upholstery is original (woot!) - I may or may not have jumped up and down with glee when I unwrapped it.

I posted about this green molded plastic chair a few weeks back. As my most recent adoptee it is getting the most attention and I am currently trying to track down new feet because one was missing.

So many good things - It makes me sigh to think of what might have been given away years ago...

Now that my house is getting rather full (and my grandparent's is getting empty) I think the only things I'll be taking on and finding a home for are my Barbies (and other childhood toys).

Enjoy!

A Bit of Brilliance - Words to Laugh By

Last weekend while wasting constructively using my time to peruse Pinterest I stumbled upon the website Brotips. I'm not normally one for inspirational Internet quotes (is it just me or are they everywhere?). BUT, then I started scrolling through the website and I just had to share a few of my favorites.

As if sharing awesome and funny quotes wasn't enough, I'm also going to share a few deep, dark, dirty little secrets too. It's really your lucky day.

I'm a lover, not a fighter but I've also been blessed with the curse of a quick tongue - yes it is a blessing and a curse and sometimes things just come out before I can stop myself... The most embarrassing thing I've ever said? I hope you get pregnant and die. Not nice. Not funny. Not quick witted...

I once admitted to going to a Nickelback concert (when I was 12!) - It almost cost me my relationship... I wish I was just being dramatic.

I may or may not have a signed 8x10 of Robert Pattinson on my TV console table - I'm not ashamed to admit it - If I do in fact have one...

I really (really, really) like making Harry Potter references in public. I just can't really help myself and I don't really care who hears me. Nothing beats the awkward silence after a burn involving the word Hogwarts while eating lunch at work... Also I went to a Harry Potter themed party once - I was 21...

This may be my new mantra. I knew someone once that wrote inspirational quotes on their mirror with erasable marker. However this person also woke me up by tickling my toes and we really weren't at that stage in our friendship - now I'm second guessing the whole mantra thing...

It doesn't embarrass me, but my friends are ashamed - I'm a big Taylor Swift fan AND I'm going to her concert in September! Yep, just me and 20,000 pre-teens rocking it at Rogers Arena in Vancouver. I know you're jealous.

Have a fabulous weekend!

Enjoy!

There's no I in Blog - but there is a G for Gaga

For the first time since I've started blogging (a whole 3 months now - woot!) my American visitors have surpassed those checking in from Canada this week!

Although as a Canadian I sometimes, on occasion, feel a strong urge to slam Americans (the result of Olympic Hockey + the gene for competitiveness) however this time I did a little happy dance. Why? Because this means that people are coming here - accidentally, intentionally, or by force, it's all good!

Most visitors seem to be stopping by to catch a glimpse at Lady Gaga's face implants (from a post a few weeks back) and although I hope some of you find me witty, and come back often, I completely understand if this isn't the case.

If you've already read too much - where are the darn pictures!?! - don't fear, you can check out Lady Gaga in all her glory (and rooms matching her outfit) here...

If you missed the implants here you go...

P.S. Based on an interview I saw (sans implants) I think they are fake!
Apparently, if the numbers had their way, my Lady Gaga post would be crowned the best I've written to date - by a ton!

Inflated ego aside, I don't give too much credit to numbers - I hate math! Even though people may be ending up here unintentionally I think there are some regulars out there as well and I wanted to say I love you all!

I got into this whole blog thing because I needed a creative outlet and quickly fell head over heels. I have so much fun putting posts together and coming up with ideas. However, I must admit, the Gaga theme was suggested by a very lovely friend and, since it worked so well...

If you are working on something (anything!)  feel free to brag away here - projects, blogs, ideas, and opinions are all welcome! You can comment or send me details and pics to my personal email address below.

AND, If you'll let me, I'd love to share your projects here for everyone to enjoy! I will however be attaching a random Lady Gaga photo to each post to increase viewership...

Here's today's - Born This Way dropped this week!

Looks like the implants are back...

Enjoy!
